A Cappella Group "Mixed Company" Presents Two Concerts in East Harlem

On March 10th and 11th, Yale University a cappella group ‘Mixed Company' presented concerts at two of ETM's East Harlem partner schools, St. Ann School and P.S. 83. The repertoire included, "Trouble Sleeping" by Corinne Bailey Rae, "You're All I Need (to Get By)" by Aretha Franklin, "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent, and "McDonald's Girl" by the Barenaked Ladies.  The selections provided students with a balance of the new and familiar. Even though they recognized many of the songs, the a cappella format challenged their imaginations and provided the young audiences with a new experience in listening as they witnessed the potential of the human voice as a musical instrument. By taking the opportunity to talk about their own interests and goals, the members of Mixed Company, who are all undergraduates, also served as inspiring role models for the students.
