Professional Development

Education Through Music offers a wide range of professional development services for teachers and school leadership. We provide all of the following services to each of our partner schools , and can provide packages of these services to additional schools, districts, and organizations around the country on a consulting basis. The ideal long-term engagement will use a variety of professional development and training activities to consistently support efforts by the school community to achieve their goals for change and improvement.

  • Music faculty workshops ranging from one hour to full-day sessions, or multi-day workshop series for music teachers to enhance teaching skills and ability to collaborate with academic teachers to coordinate instruction in music and academic subjects.
  • One-on-one coaching for music teachers consisting of one or more observations of the music teacher in the classroom, an evaluation using ETM's rubric, and follow-up discussion, again to support teaching and integration skills.
  • Academic teacher workshops ranging from one hour to a full day. The aim of these workshops is to help academic teachers recognize common skills built in the music classroom and efficiently collaborate with the music faculty to reinforce knowledge and skill development.
  • Institute days consisting of a full day series of workshops involving full faculties, parents, and staff from a number of schools. Institutes are designed to increase academic teachers' familiarity with musical knowledge and skills and integration strategies and techniques, as well as to build enthusiasm and involvement in arts education amongst all constituents of the school community.
  • School and regional leadership workshops and presentations on management issues related to arts education management, sustaining arts education, and advocacy.
  • School leadership teams and parent organizations workshops and presentations to help encourage and guide the involvement of parents, community partners, local business leaders, and other members of the schools in the school's arts education programs.
